*ṢALĀT AL-KUSŪF (THE SOLAR ECLIPSE PRAYER)*

DATE: FRIDAY 20TH MARCH

VENUE: DARUL ULOOM AL ARABIYA AL ISLAMIYA, BURY

TIME: 9:00 AM

Solar and lunar eclipses are cues to repenting before Allāh and reminders for the Day of Judgment, when the sun, moon and stars will all lose their radiance, and a manifestation of Allāh’s Power and Might.

The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ says:

A solar and lunar eclipse does not take place upon the life or death of any person, but they are creations from His creation. Allāh changes in His creation whatever He wishes. So whichever of the two eclipse, perform ṣalāh until it brightens up, or Allāh brings forth a big matter (i.e. the Day of Judgement). (Mishkāt al-Maṣābīḥ)

Sayyidunā Abū Bakrah RA narrates that the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said: ‘The sun and the moon are two signs amongst the signs of Allāh and they do not eclipse because of the death of someone but Allāh frightens His devotees with them.’ (Bukhārī)

In view of the above, the Sunnah prayer of Ṣalāt al-Kusūf, which comprises of two rakʿahs, will be led by Mawlānā Bilal Nakhuda Ṣāḥib at Darul Uloom Al Arabiya Al Islamiya, Bury. The eclipse prayer will start at 9:00 am and last throughout the eclipse. A large portion of the Glorious Qur’ān shall be recited.

One should also seek to remember Allāh ﷻ through dhikr and duʿā’, give in charity, seek forgiveness, recite the takbīr and seek refuge in Allāh ﷻ from the punishment of the grave as stipulated in various aḥādīth.

May Allāh ﷻ grant us the tawfīq and strength to do so and guide us all to His pleasure.
